Labor Gags Debate On Car and Ute Tax
The Albanese Labor Government have rammed their car and ute tax through Parliament without debate.
The New Vehicle Emissions Standards Bill was set to be debated in Parliament today, but was voted on immediately when Labor used its numbers to force it through without allowing members to speak.
The legislation will set a cap on the total emissions of cars a manufacturer sells, which will limit market supply and drive up the price of new vehicles that aren’t electric by $1000s.
Federal Member for Herbert Phillip Thompson was left disgusted by the political move.
“This is an abuse of the Parliament that Labor should be ashamed of,” Phillip Thompson said.
“At the opening of the 47th Parliament, the Albanese Labor Government promised open and transparent debate and today, they have broken that promise yet again.”
After receiving thousands of signatures on his petition to put a stop to the tax, Phillip Thompson was ready to speak against the Bill before debate was blocked.
“From tradies to camping enthusiasts and young families, this tax is not what the people of Townsville want,” Phillip Thompson said.
“I was prepared to fight for the local community and Labor have taken away the right for our voices to be heard.”
The bill will now progress to the Senate where it’s unknown if Labor will pull the same stunt.
“We’ll continue to fight against this tax, for the Townsville community,” Phillip Thompson said.
