New facilities for Townsville Flexible Learning Centre

Townsville Flexible Learning Centre in West End will benefit from the construction of new classroom and administration facilities thanks to a Federal Government grant.

Federal Member for Herbert Phillip Thompson said the Australian Government would provide $2.3m towards the project through the Capital Grants Program, which provides funding for non-government schools to improve capital infrastructure.

“Students and staff at Townsville Flexible Learning Centre will benefit from the construction of new and refurbished administration and staff facilities, general learning areas, art rooms, enclosed walkways and student amenities,” Mr Thompson said.

“Townsville Flexible Learning Centre caters to students who have found themselves outside the mainstream educational system so it’s important they and the staff have the appropriate buildings to equip them to do their important work.

“This project, which is worth $2.57m in total, will also bring a boost to the local economy during construction.”

The Capital Grants Program provides funding for non-government school communities to assist non-government primary and secondary schools to improve capital infrastructure where they otherwise may not have access to sufficient capital resources.

This is one of 158 projects approved for funding under the Capital Grants Program to commence in 2021.

Schools that have received funding from the Program in previous years include St Benedict’s Catholic School in Shaw, St Patrick’s College Townsville, and Townsville Christian College.
