Time running out to express interest in Volunteer Grants

Townsville organisations have until the end of this week to express their interest in grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 to help support the important work of their volunteers.

Volunteer Grants can be used to purchase small equipment and contribute to the cost of training courses and fuel for volunteers.

Member for Herbert Phillip Thompson said he had already received a significant number of expressions of interest via his website.

“Without volunteers Townsville wouldn’t be the thriving community that it is today, and we need to support their amazing work in whatever way we can,” he said.

“These grants are such a great opportunity to support grass-roots volunteering, and encourage them to not only keep doing what they’re doing, but also make their work a little easier.

“I would encourage every community organisation in Townsville to go onto my website and fill out an expression of interest form.”

Organisations must be a legal not-for-profit entity and have a minimum of 40% volunteers. They should ensure their proposals meet the program guidelines before applying to ensure they can be properly considered by the community consultation committee to be invited to progress to the application stage.

More information and the expression of interest form can be found at philthompson.com.au/volunteergrants/. Expressions of interest must be received no later than 11:59pm on Sunday the 11th of April 2021.
