My Plan

Phillip Thompson is listening and working to deliver more locally.

By managing the Budget we can deliver better roads, schools, healthcare and important local services. We have a practical plan that is fully funded for our area, including:

  • Securing North Queensland’s water supply by investing in water security measures for Townsville; the Hughenden Irrigation Scheme; the Rookwood Weir in Central Queensland; and the Hells Gates Dam project including Big Rocks Weir.
  • Helping North Queenslanders get back on their feet after the recent natural disaster by ensuring infrastructure is rebuilt and recovery assistance payments get to families, farmers and businesses.
  • Delivering Stage 5 of the Townsville Ring Road – duplicating the full length of the road and building a new interchange at Beck Drive.
  • Investing $22 million to deliver a new 33-bed ward at the Townsville Hospital and a new Maternity and Neo-Natal Unit at the Mater Hospital, improving important health services for local families.
  • Delivering the Townsville Port Widening Project to create jobs and boost economic opportunities for industry.
  • Delivering the Townsville Stadium – a multi- purpose professional sporting facility and the home of the North Queensland Cowboys – and building a new high-performance sporting centre of excellence.
  • Delivering vital upgrades at the Townsville Airport to improve air services.

1

Reducing local traffic congestion

I’m working to deliver better, safer roads and bust congestion. As part of of my plan I’ve secured federal funding to fix key bottlenecks along Moggill Rd including Kenmore Roundabout and Indooroopilly Roundabout. I’m working hard to get this funding delivered as soon as possible.

2

Keeping our economy strong

It is only with a strong economy that we can deliver the roads, schools and healthcare our area needs, while keeping taxes low.
Through the responsible economic management of the Morrison Government, the Budget is now in surplus – the first since the Howard Government – and we’ve delivered lower taxes for over 64,000 locals.

3

We’ve stopped Labor’s $200 billion in new taxes including the Retiree Tax and Housing Tax

More than 9,000 local retirees and pensioners would have been impacted by Labor’s Retiree Tax and another 10,000 would have been hurt by the Housing Tax.
With your support we’ve stopped Labor’s unfair attack on people who have worked hard and saved for their retirement and restored the security they deserve in planning for the future.

4

Protecting our local environment

I know how important it is to protect and preserve our local environment for future generations and take practical steps to address climate change.
As a Councillor in Graham Quirk’s team, I helped plant over 2 million new trees in Brisbane and cleaned up local creek and river catchments.
The Morrison Government’s Climate Solutions Package is a practical plan that ensures we meet our emissions reduction targets while keeping our economy strong.

5

Supporting families with better health and education

As a new dad, I know the joy – and uncertainty – that comes with raising a young family.
I want to make sure families in our area have access to the best education opportunities, from early learning to university.
The LNP is delivering record investment in local schools and over 6,400 local families are benefiting from our New Childcare Package.
