Community Elves Give to Sick Kids this Christmas

It’s the season of giving and a group of rugby league clubs and small businesses are certainly showing their generosity this festive season.

In their third year, the Townsville Chiefs Rugby League Club, in partnership with Townsville Brothers Rugby League and Northern Airconditioning have doubled their spend and bought over $5000 worth of toys and vouchers for sick children this Christmas.

When asked why they do this each year, Shaun Valentine of Northern Airconditioning said that it’s simply for the smile.

“These kids don’t expect anything and so when we walk in with trolleys full of toys, their smiles light up the room,” Mr Valentine said.

“I’m a big kid at heart, so I probably have more fun doing it than the kids do receiving it!”

Federal Member Herbert Phillip Thompson joined in the fun again this year.

“There are many kids who are unwell here at the hospital, these organisations will ensure that fun is had and laughter is heard down the hospital hallways this Christmas,” he said.

“Not only are we bringing joy to some little faces, we hope to take the pressure of their families at this time too.”

The toys and vouchers were delivered across Townsville, including Townsville Hospital and Health Services, Sera’s Women’s Shelter and NQ Domestic Violence Resource Services.
