Cool Down While Stocking Up

The Townsville Toy Library is set to stay cool all summer long, thanks to a $20,000 grant secured with the help of Federal Herbert MP Phillip Thompson.

The library was the successful recipient of federal funding to install four air-conditioners in their new space in Vincent.

Federal Member for Herbert Phillip Thompson visited the library to see – and feel – the upgrades.

“The Stronger Communities Grant was an initiative of the former Coalition Government and it’s fantastic to see local organisations continuing to put those funds to good use,” he said.

Townsville Toy Library President Nikki Dunne expressed her gratitude for the grant in creating a comfortable environment for volunteers and members alike.

“Air-conditioning is necessary for our volunteers and members to work and spend time in the toy library all year round,” Ms Dunne said.

After a bumpy beginning to operations in the new location, with multiple incidents of crime that caused over $5000 in damage before the library opened, Treasurer Stacey Prenter said that the financial assistance the grant provided has allowed them to get back on their feet.

“The installation of air-conditioning has made our new space more welcoming,” Ms Prenter said.

“We look forward to hosting more community events in 2024.”

Mr Thompson is encouraging the Townsville community to take advantage of this fantastic organisation and all it has to offer.

“Many are doing it tough right now and with school holidays around the corner, I want to encourage everyone to check out the library and their affordable options to play and have fun.”
