Local Solutions to Skills Shortage
Two local businessmen – one a former Cowboys captain – are tackling Townsville’s skills shortage head-on.
Equality Education Director Arthur Burchett and Partner Michael Morgan have set up shop, providing local specialist training in hospitality, leadership and management.
The pair will partner with small businesses such as Osk Bar and Coffee Presto to provide in-house training in real-world environments.
Federal Member for Herbert Phillip Thompson said there was one major element that set this education provider apart from the rest.
“Equality Education is locally owned and locally-based, providing these courses for locals,” he said.
“They provide that hands-on approach to get our young people re-trained into their chosen sector, whether that be hospitality, leadership or management.”
Business Partner Michael Morgan said he had full confidence in the success of the business and its Director Arthur Burchett.
“Arthur has shown from the very beginning his ethical visions and motivation for Equality Education to be a leader in the training industry for Townsville and North Queensland,” Mr Morgan said.
“Believing in real training outcomes, students and business owners will benefit from what Equality Education will offer.”
Mr Thompson has been asked to provide his advice and support to the partners. He said he hoped Equality Education would help address the ongoing battle small business owners are having when it comes to employing skilled staff.
“Having courses run by locals for locals will really be able to develop those skills that you need to thrive in Townsville,” he said.
“We want to see Townsville people picking up these opportunities and if you want to take that next step, you should be looking into programs like these.”
