More than $1m to seal local roads damaged by monsoon

Just over one million dollars in funding has been allocated to seal four roads in Townsville, which were left damaged by last year’s monsoonal flooding.

Member for Herbert Phillip Thompson said the repairs were made possible under the $242 million exceptional circumstances package under the joint Commonwealth-Queensland Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

“Our local infrastructure suffered significant damage as a result of the unprecedented monsoonal flooding just over a year ago,” Mr Thompson said.

“Our road network is extremely important to keeping our community connected, and allowing essential transport around our region.

“I’m pleased to see funding for these road sealing works and am looking forward to seeing the end result.

“I thank the community for their patience up to this point, and during the upcoming roadworks.”

The projects funded in the Townsville City Council area are:

  • Seal Forestry Road, $462,000
  • Seal Ponderosa Road, $343,000
  • Seal Bougainville Street, $7500
  • Seal Purono Parkway, $215,000

The projects are some of 15 infrastructure resilience projects announced today. Delivery of these projects will be progressively rolled out until June 2021.
