$4.46 million for local projects in Townsville

More road and playground upgrades are on the way in Townsville thanks to another federal funding injection.

Federal Member for Herbert Phillip Thompson said Townsville City Council has been allocated $4.46 million under Phase 3 of the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program.

“This is a great program which funds important road safety upgrades and projects to improve local community assets,” he said.

“This program has already funded projects like the Illuka Street drainage and resurfacing works in Currajong, and the upgrade to Magpies Park in Garbutt.

“This latest round of funding brings support for Townsville City Council through the program to $13.3 million.

“While local governments are responsible for local roads and infrastructure, we want to see Townsville become an even better place to live, work and play – and support construction jobs in the process, and that’s what this funding does.”

The Local Roads and Community Infrastructure funding is in addition to $7.68 million of Financial Assistance Grants and $4.46 million as part of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure fund last financial year.
