Funding for Townsville community groups to cut energy costs
Six Townsville community groups will share in more than $51,000 of funding to help cut down on their energy use and save money on electricity bills.
Federal Herbert MP Phillip Thompson said the small-scale projects to install solar panels, energy-efficient lighting or replace old air conditioners would make a big difference.
“These sporting and recreational organisations are at the grass roots of our community, meaning any savings to the bottom line are incredibly important,” Mr Thompson said.
“Things like installing solar and putting in energy efficient lighting are just some of the ways we are helping to cut costs which helps keep members’ fees as low as possible.
“I’m really please to be able to have helped secure this important support for these groups.”
Saints Eagles Souths Football Club received $7,077 for a solar power system for its Aitkenvale clubhouse.
Club President Terry West said the investment would go a long way to help the Club keep costs down.
“By providing the solar panels It will cover the costs of our fridges and freezers which run all the time,” Ms West said.
“On game days we’re using a lot of extra power as well with respect to extra fans, air conditioners and the kitchen equipment – deep fryers and all of that.
“So just by mitigating those costs it will assist us greatly.”
The projects were funded under the Federal Government’s Powering Communities Program.
