Grants to fund emergency accommodation in Townsville

$60 million worth of grants are now available to assist local organisations expand emergency accommodation.

Member for Herbert Phillip Thompson said the grant could help local women and children in Townsville experiencing domestic violence to find a safe and secure place to stay.

“I would encourage eligible organisations in the Herbert electorate to apply for the grants,” Mr Thompson said.

“The funding can be used to construct, renovate or purchase new buildings or land to create additional safe places in our community.

“This significant investment in emergency accommodation by the Morrison Government can provide more women and children experiencing domestic and family violence in Townsville somewhere safe to stay.

“Domestic and family violence is a scourge on our society and this is a small way we can assist.”

The grants form part of the Morrison Government’s $340 million investment in the Fourth Action Plan of the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010-2022.

Applications for funding are now open to eligible organisations. Visit the GrantConnect website for more information.
