State Labor’s grant portal failure sparks small business distress

Member for Herbert Phillip Thompson has expressed his disappointment that local businesses have once again been let down by the State Labor Government after a grants application website failed this morning.

Round 2 of the Small Business COVID-19 Adaption Grant Program went live this morning but was overwhelmed by demand leaving some small business owners unable to complete the application.

Member for Herbert Phillip Thompson said the State Labor Government should’ve learnt from their experience in Round 1.

“The State Labor Government knew there was going to be a lot of demand for this program,” he said.

“The first round was exhausted within just days and I and other businesses campaigned for another round.

“Now that it’s finally arrived people aren’t able to put their applications in because the website the government has built can’t handle it.

“I’ve had one business adviser tell me her clients have called her in tears because they need this help so desperately because of the terrible toll that COVID-19 has taken on their livelihoods.

“It’s just not good enough from a government that says it wants to help businesses recover from this global pandemic yet can’t deliver a simple website to get much-needed funds out the door.”
