Statement on the Productivity Commission’s Remote Area Tax Concessions and Payments Report

I do not support the recommendations of this report to Government, which was clearly written by people outside the regions.

The regions like Townsville are the backbone of the nation. I will not stand idle and let some southern bureaucrats pen a report which will put more strain on the people of Townsville.

The Zone Tax Offset should not be abolished. It is an important measure that helps people living in regional areas like North Queensland.

We need to be driving investment in our city, and supporting our regional communities, because when they thrive, Townsville thrives.

Let me be clear – the Productivity Commission report is a report to Government, not by Government.

The Government will not be acting on the Productivity Commission’s recommendations.
