Townsville general practices to receive COVID-19 jab next week
Townsville GPs will receive their first doses of the COVID-19 vaccination from next week.
Federal Member for Herbert Phillip Thompson said locals falling in the eligibility categories for Phase 1b will be able to make an appointment with a selected General Practice, Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) or Respiratory Clinic to receive the vaccination.
“This is exciting news for our community as we work to protect as many people as possible from getting seriously ill from COVID-19 and get life back to normal again,” Mr Thompson said.
“We’ve already seen hundreds of front-line workers successfully vaccinated as part of Phase 1a. Phase 1b is about protecting our most vulnerable community members, such as those aged 70+ and people with medical conditions.”
The sites which will be administering the vaccine from next week will be available via the health.gov.au website using the service finder. The list will progressively grow as services are ramped up over the next four weeks.
Each clinic will be provided with their allocated doses commencing next week with a weekly cap on the number of doses to be provided ranging from 50 – 400. This controlled and sequenced commencement process ensures an efficient and equitable distribution of vaccines across the country, and ensures that as many individuals as possible within the 1b cohort are able to receive the vaccine from their own doctor.
“There will be a high demand for these vaccines so I would encourage everyone to be patient – no one will miss out,” Mr Thompson said.
“It’s important those who are part of Phase 1b are vaccinated first, so please check your eligibility online or call my office for more information.”
